Verdi’s La Traviata in Regents Park

  • Nannies' Lawn, Inner Circle in Regents Park

We are delighted to welcome Opera Brava to The Regent's Park for the first time. Please note this production will take place on Nannies' Lawn which can be found on the Inner Circle in Queen Mary's Gardens between Regent's Café and The Open Air Theatre.

From the thrill of unexpected romance to a heart breaking reconciliation that comes too late – Verdi’s La Traviata is one of the most popular of all operas. Fans of Muriel Spark's 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' will know that Jean Brodie took her girls to see the Carla Rosa production of 'La Traviata' in Edinburgh.

Alfredo falls in love in with the courtesan Violetta in glamorous Paris society, but underneath the surface run darker undercurrents, leading to a tragic ending. The opera’s fantastic melodies include the famous Brindisi and the exuberant ‘Sempre libera’ – both showing the lyricism of Italian opera at its most immediately appealing.

Christopher Lane’s production for Opera Brava will bring out all the emotional colour, from the first discovery of love, through painful confrontation to the inevitable conclusion.

Christopher Lane has assisted on four major productions at The Royal opera House.

If you like this event, you might also like Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro at the same venue on 27 June 2019.
