To mark the 100th anniversary of his death, and in honour of his memory, members of The Portman Estate team recently sponsored and unveiled a green plaque to commemorate Cpt. Thomas Riversdale Colyer-Fergusson VC, who was born in Portman Square on 18 February 1896.

Colyer-Fergusson was just 21 years old when he earned the Victoria Cross on 31 July 1917 at Bellewaarde, Belgium. Sadly, he was shot dead by a sniper that day. The plaque can be seen on Robert Adam Street on the corner of Orchard Court
