Oxford Street

The plans for the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street will have a major impact on our lives

Without doubt, Oxford Street is one of the best known streets in London. This major shopping area draws in thousands of people every day of the year. With this mass of people comes inevitable problems of overcrowded roads and pavements.

The western section of Oxford Street is to become a pedestrian boulevard under plans presented by Sadiq Khan, the London mayor.

The proposals have been welcomed by some business lobbies and charities but ran into opposition from people living near the West End shopping area.

Under the proposals, traffic will be banned on the east-west section that runs from Oxford Circus to Orchard Street, near Marble Arch.

These proposals with have major impacts on traffic in the surrounding areas, which the Association believes have not been well thought out by supporters and planners of the scheme.
