When you moved to Marylebone you probably did not imagine you would be living under the flightpath of Heathrow. Well that is exactly what the third runway means for Marylebone & Mayfair. It might all seem a long way off but now is the time to understand what this will actual means for your quality of life and to make your voice heard. You might think that Heathrow expansion is long overdue and an end of those days of delays coming into land will be a good thing. The ten minutes saved in the air coming into land will undoubted be lost on the ground as the surface infrastructure of road and rail is not growing proportionately to meet the increased passenger capacity. Concentrating increasing passenger numbers in one location will only compound many of the existing problems. Living under the flight path will certainly not help our local air quality. The main issue will be aircraft noise. If you want to know what it will sound like take a walk in Battersea Park as this will be a similar height that the planes will fly over Marylebone and Mayfair. It might make a welcome change to the helicopter noise we routinely suffer, especially on summer evenings.
The Government is currently holding a series of consultation information events entitled “Heathrow Airport and airspace”. It is odd that none of the planned twenty London locations that are hosting these events are in Central London. Strangely, twelve regional events are planned from Newquay to Brighton but not one our community which would find itself actual living under the flightpath. Are we all sleepwalking into being woken by aircraft noise at 4.30am? To find our more visit www.gov.uk/government/collections/heathrow-airport-expansion Please respond to the consultation it ends on the 25 May 2017.
