Government to examine effect disposable drink packaging

The problem of disposable packaging (coffee cups, plastic bottles etc.)littering our streets and countryside is increasing. You only have to look in our own area of Marylebone at the number of coffee shops dispensing drinks and snacks in disposable packaging to see where the problem lies. This situation is wasteful use of resources and harmful to the environment and to wildlife.

At long last our politicians are considering taking action. The House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee is examining the damage being caused by disposable packaging. Hopefully this will lead to a deposit scheme being introduced. When Denmark and Germany took such measures there was an immediate and sustained improvement in recycling rates. So there is absolutely no reason why Britain cannot achieve a similar improvement.

You can submit your own submission to the committee on this issues. Click here to find out more.

Thanks to Association member Hugh Counsell for this information .
