Westminster City Council has given presentations to stakeholder groups on further modifications to the Baker Street plans arising from the first round of consultations. When comments have been considered, there will be another full public consultation in the New Year.

Cycle Superhighway 11

Public consultation on Cycle Superhighway 11, running through Regent's Park into Portland Place, is due to begin shortly. As the current proposals include closing all three gates at the south end of the park to motor vehicles, we are concerned that traffic will be displaced into Marylebone, particularly into Baker Street and Gloucester Place as well as, ironically, the Devonshire Street/Paddington Street section of the proposed Cycle Quietway. Transport for London say they have carried out an assessment of the volume of traffic involved, but will not release the figures.

Action on Pedicabs and Survey - Give your views

Westminster City Council, the Met Police and Transport for London are cracking down on unlicensed rickshaw riders who are aggressively touting for business, blocking pavements, and charging extortionate fares. Using laws guarding against anti-social behaviour, action has been taken against 69 riders in the last few weeks, resulting in four verbal warnings, 31 written warnings, 22 summons, four arrests, and a series of fines.

Oxford Street - Mayoral candidates to be challenged over plans for pedestrianisation

The Conservative and Labour candidates for Mayor of London are both advocating pedestrianisation of Oxford Street, despite having no alternative solution for traffic. Even the New West End Company, representing the major retailers, which had formerly proposed moves to pedestrianise, now believes that simply moving traffic into residential areas is not an acceptable plan. Marylebone has the worst air quality in London and we (The Marylebone Association) will be challenging the candidates to explain why residents, schoolchildren and hospital patients should be subjected to even more lethal pollution.
