The Marylebone Forum is an independent, non-political, organisation whose membership includes many individual residents and businesses both large and small. It also has representatives of the medical, educational and religious sectors and other leading organisations in the area.

The Forum is  focussed primarily on Neighbourhood planning but will also act as an umbrella group for the various bodies involved. It is also a Forum for a shared agenda on non-planning issues in which businesses and residents can implement ideas to drive long term success and community vitality.

Marylebone Forum - Initial Meeting Held

Marylebone Forum - Initial Meeting Held

MF-Meeting-25FebThe inaugural meeting of the Marylebone Forum was held on the 25th February at International Students House and got off to an excellent start with a packed hall of around nearly 200 attendees. The 6 members of the Forum panel addressed the meeting on various matters of current interest such as the various stages of the Forum, what it could do, the funding that it could bring with it and why they felt it should be supported. There followed a vigorous question and answer session that amongst other things revealed the need for further work with Forum members on the purposes of the Forum and the concept of neighbourhood planning. It was emphasised that the purposes of the Forum were specific and defined and it did not replace either of the amenity societies which continued to operate independently and were able to directly reflect residents interests.

Marylebone Forum Update

Marylebone Forum Update

We have now heard about our Forum area designation. The full decision is available on Westminster's website and a link to this and a map of the designated area can be found on our website. There appears a certain amount of confusion about whether this decision has affected the area covered by the Marylebone Association: it has not. The two organisations remain distinct with different albeit fairly similar boundaries. The Forum area designated is smaller than that applied for and therefore the aspiration to incorporate the whole of Marylebone to the Camden boundary within the Forum has not been realised. The western boundary will be mainly one building back from Great Portland Street which means that the buildings along both sides of much of Great Portland Street will be lost to us. This is disappointing as there was much support amongst residents and members in this area to be included within the Marylebone Forum. On the plus side our area does cover the BBC and the area east of Oxford Circus to Great Portland Street. Our final application was submitted jointly with The St Marylebone Society and we are pleased to confirm that part of the area that they cover, to the north of Marylebone Road, will be in the Forum although not Regents Park itself. This was originally inserted on guidance by Westminster but was removed as the Royal Parks wish to be outside the Forum system.
