Off street car parking lost due to increasingly higher alternative use values

Westminster City Council are considering letting the top level (50,000 square feet) of Cavendish Square car park for other uses. A large prime West End underground space for around £30 per square foot (£1.5m per annum). Unfortunately, this is too expensive for the new Marylebone library which is now planned for the Seymour Centre. The council is offering the top level of the three-tier car park to a range of occupiers. Commercial space above ground in the area can cost as much as £100 per square foot. We understand that a number of uses are being looked at, including a gym, restaurant, bar, museum, health centre, or a depot for an online retailer of logistics firm. It has vehicle access, a staircase, a lift, 78 light wells and a central ceiling height of 2.7m.

The Future of Oxford Street - Your Views Please

Monthly meetings are being held on the future of traffic on Oxford Street involving Transport for London, Council officials and representatives of residents groups in the West End Community Network, including the Marylebone Association. Data is being gathered on traffic flows and modelling is under way to examine the possible effects of changes to Oxford Street on the wider area. An initial public consultation is planned for April, followed by another later in the year. There is widespread concern amongst residents and businesses that any form of pedestrianisation will cause increased congestion and further damage to air quality in the residential streets of the West End. As I write, at the end of April, an election period has once more intervened to delay matters, including publication of the results of the second consultation on the Baker Street Two-way scheme. We hope to see final plans emerge which will appeal to all stakeholders.

Westminster City Council Announces Initiative on Fly-Tipping

Westminster City Council has launched a city-wide blitz on fly-tipping. Alongside increased and targeted patrols by 75 City Inspectors, Westminster's website function called Report It and an action line, the council will also be turning to social media to encourage residents to report fly-tipping as it is happening.
