The Future of Oxford Street - Your Views Please

Monthly meetings are being held on the future of traffic on Oxford Street involving Transport for London, Council officials and representatives of residents groups in the West End Community Network, including the Marylebone Association. Data is being gathered on traffic flows and modelling is under way to examine the possible effects of changes to Oxford Street on the wider area. An initial public consultation is planned for April, followed by another later in the year. There is widespread concern amongst residents and businesses that any form of pedestrianisation will cause increased congestion and further damage to air quality in the residential streets of the West End. Harewood Avenue and Enford Street Cycle Route

We are extremely concerned that Transport for London has decided to go ahead with plans to alter Harewood Avenue and Enford Street to accommodate additional cycle lanes. They have taken no account of strong objections from the Association, the St Marylebone Society and others, questioning aspects of the proposals on grounds of safety for pedestrians, children at the primary school in Enford Street and, indeed, for cyclists themselves.
