Baker Street Two Way Scheme given go-ahead

The scheme received Cabinet approval from Westminster City Council on 30 May and work could now begin as early as July, with a completion time of 18 months.

Oxford St Consultation - Significant implications for Marylebone

A consultation on the future of Oxford Street has begun. This “Transformation” project is aimed at improving the street and helping to cope with the predicted increase in visitors with the arrival of Crossrail. It is, however, taking place in the light of the Mayor’s wish to pedestrianise Oxford Street, initially from Orchard Street to Oxford Circus, with the rest to follow soon afterwards. We have previously expressed great concern at the potential for such a scheme to blight our area with much of the traffic that presently uses Oxford Street.

The Future of Oxford Street - Your Views Please

Monthly meetings are being held on the future of traffic on Oxford Street involving Transport for London, Council officials and representatives of residents groups in the West End Community Network, including the Marylebone Association. Data is being gathered on traffic flows and modelling is under way to examine the possible effects of changes to Oxford Street on the wider area. An initial public consultation is planned for April, followed by another later in the year. There is widespread concern amongst residents and businesses that any form of pedestrianisation will cause increased congestion and further damage to air quality in the residential streets of the West End.
