The sharing economy in a Housing crisis’ short term lettings

In the Harrowby & District Residents’ Association (HDRA) part of Marylebone, we have suffered for a long time with the problems associated with short term lettings which include, noise, nuisance, security problems and rubbish to mention a few. However, this problem is spreading throughout the rest of London, creating a shortage of available long term flat and house rentals for people wishing to live and work in London. In some capital cities such as Berlin and New York the problems have became so acute that these cities are banning short term lets. London needs to find a solution which can work for genuine short term lets and avoid the extreme commercialisation of this market.

Shisha Symposium

Westminster City Council held a “Shisha Symposium” on 22nd February following a consultation the council undertook last year. The symposium was held at the Victory Services Club, an appropriate location as it is just off the Edgware Road, where there are many shisha cafés. The symposium was chaired by local councillor and resident, Cllr. Heather Acton.

Anti social behaviour in Marylebone

Anti social behaviour in Marylebone

Since the passing of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policy Act last November, which among other things replaces ASBOs, it looks as if Westminster Council and the Police will have a few more teeth to deal with the rough sleeping problem which is afflicting parts of Marylebone. Working together Westminster Council and the Police are now able to issue a warning to people who are begging, behaving in an anti social way, loitering, making noise or creating mess on our streets in both English and Romanian.

Marylebone: Rubbish on our streets... What can be done?

Typical morning scene in MaryleboneWith more and more people living in the Capital the problems of rubbish seem to be on the increase. Piles of rubbish as in the photo(s) are becoming all too common and I wonder if Westminster Council needs to approach the problem differently if we want to avoid such piles in future.
