The Future of Oxford Street - Your Views Please

The Future of Oxford Street - Your Views Please

Monthly meetings are being held on the future of traffic on Oxford Street involving Transport for London, Council officials and representatives of residents groups in the West End Community Network, including the Marylebone Association. Data is being gathered on traffic flows and modelling is under way to examine the possible effects of changes to Oxford Street on the wider area. An initial public consultation is planned for April, followed by another later in the year. There is widespread concern amongst residents and businesses that any form of pedestrianisation will cause increased congestion and further damage to air quality in the residential streets of the West End. Please let us know your views to feed into these early discussions. Use the comment facility below this article to send us your views

Marylebone 20 mph Speed Limits - Coming Soon!

Marylebone 20 mph Speed Limits - Coming Soon!

A 20-mile per hour speed limit looks set to be introduced to our streets around schools in Westminster shortly. We understand that it is likely to be trailed on our roads between Gloucester Place and the Edgware Road. There is growing interest and use of 20mph (30km/h) speed limits across the UK and in London in particular. In London 25% of all roads are now subject to a 20mph speed limit and within the Central London Congestion Charging Zone (i.e. Inner Ring Road) 50% of all roads are subject to a 20mph limit. Westminster is one of only two central London Boroughs that do not have most roads subject to 20mph limits. 20mph areas/streets can have a positive impact on all road users but particularly the more vulnerable such as children, the elderly, and cyclists.
